AT&T Construction in Fairway
U-verse with AT&T GigaPower is Coming to Fairway
After much anticipation, Fairway, KS residents and small businesses will soon have access to AT&T’s ultra-fast, fiber-to-the-home network within the City.
Fairway residents can expect to see AT&T subcontractors working within the City’s right-of-way and various utility easements.
Area residents will receive door-hangers prior to construction activity beginning in their immediate neighborhood. Workers will be placing buried conduits, installing fiber (both aerial and buried), and replacing utility poles when deemed necessary.
You may expect the following during the overall construction process:
- Occasional lane closures will occur as contractors work along residential streets.
- Contractors may need to access utility poles or underground equipment on your property.
- Digging in numerous easement areas will be necessary to install the fiber network within your neighborhood.
- Please note that construction work in your neighborhood should not disrupt any of your utility services. If you experience any disruption in service, please contact your utility provider immediately.
If you have questions or concerns regarding construction on the AT&T GigaPower network in your area, call the AT&T GigaPower construction phone line at 913-676-1801, or email g43578@att.com.
Additional project updates including timelines will be provided on this page as they become available.
For general information see below:
Why can AT&T install facilities on my property?
A utility has the right to maintain and install their utility in the City/Public right-of-way (front of property) and utility easements (back of property). A homeowner has to provide them reasonable access to those easements to maintain/install their equipment.
What is the right-of-way?
In general, right-of-way is an area in which a municipality has the legal right to access and use the area for the benefit of the public. Typically, this would be for transportation purposes (i.e. roads, sidewalks, etc.) and depending on the area it may extend approximately 10 – 15 feet behind the edge of the street or curb.
What is a utility easement?
A utility easement is an area in which a utility has the legal right to access and use the area to construct new or maintain existing utility infrastructure. Utility easements can be located adjacent to right-of-way, but typically are located along property boundaries. Typical utility easements are 10 – 20 feet in width.
What is the City’s role in the AT&T GigaPower project?
Overall, City of Fairway staff has been working with AT&T representatives on various coordination efforts for this project. This includes ensuring City ordinances are being followed, which is standard practice for these undertakings within the City especially when working in right-of-way and various utility easements.
