Municipal Court

 

Location and hours:

 

Municipal Court is located in the Fairway City Hall at 5240 Belinder, Fairway, KS 66205. The Administrative Offices of the Municipal Court are open from 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday and are closed on all federal holidays except for Columbus Day. Court is held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 5:30PM unless there is a change due to a holiday. On court dates, the court doors remain open from 5:00PM until 6:00PM.

The Prosecutor, Maurice Brewer, is available for plea conferences with attorneys at 5:00PM on the day of Court. If you are needing to reach the Prosecutor email the Court Administrator. The judge is available on the day of Court at 5:30PM.

Municipal Court is the judicial branch of City Government. Your presence in the City of Fairway Municipal Court is perhaps your first experience in any court. We want every person to leave this court feeling that he or she has been treated fairly.

 

When you appear in Municipal Court you will be required to adhere to the following guidelines:

 

  • Appropriate clothing and shoes will be worn.
  • The wearing of hats and caps is not allowed.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the courtroom.
  • While the court is in session cell phones must be placed on vibrate, silenced or turned off.
  • No weapons are allowed.

Please notify court staff if you have any medical conditions or mental or physical disability so that every effort can be made to accommodate your needs. One week advance notice is required.

 

Payment Information:

The Fairway Municipal Court will accept cash, check, or credit and debit card payments.

To pay the COURT fines and fees you can...

  • pay by phone 913-262-0350 ext. 5205,
  • bring in or postal mail to City Hall at 5240 Belinder Fairway, KS 66205,
  • For your convenience there is an after-hours payment box located inside the front doors of the Fairway Police Department at 5252 Belinder. If you put your payment in the after-hours payment box, please be sure to include your name and/or citation number with your payment and inform the clerk as soon as possible. If you would like a receipt mailed to you please also include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your payment. 
  • Online payments have been suspended due to technical difficulties.  Please contact Court Clerk at 913-262-0350 ext. 5205 for assistance.

 All credit and debit card transactions have a 2.5% service fee added (online, over the phone or in person).

Unlike some other municipal courts, you may not need an attorney in order to resolve your case. You have a variety of options available to you and can often obtain the same results without the expense of an attorney. Please call the Court at 913-262-0350 x5205 during normal business hours to discuss your specific case.

Traffic violations and violations of City Ordinances are tried in Municipal Court. Trials are conducted under the Code of Criminal Procedure, Code for Municipal Courts, and the Kansas Rules of Evidence as adopted by the Kansas Legislature. 

 

Open Record Request Form

The completed Open Request Form is to be submitted to the Clerk of the Municipal Court. 

Please be as specific as possible in describing the records that you want.  Include names, record titles, case numbers and dates and / or time frames.  You are required to submit your request in writing along with a photo ID; a driver’s license will be ideal.  Once received, you’ll be contacted with an estimate of cost to be paid in advance of pulling the record.  Once paid, depending on the case age and additional cost to be paid, if any, usually within three business days your record will be completed.  Any excess payment, if any, will be refunded to you.
